In the years subsequent to the reign of Hughseph &
Euphemily, the Munchkingdom found itself torn once more. Peace had visited the lands, as had magic
which returned to the world with the emptying of the Well of Lemilech. The Gnomes of the Shadow Realms went about,
exploring the rest of Påmidgard for the first time in eons, bringing with them
knowledge of elemental magic. So too did
the Orcs of the Shadow Realms set forth, relocating to the Darkmoor Swamps and
the Plains of the Withered Heath with little antagonism. Even the Aelrimcosian clans to the north were
quelled and some groups brought into the Munchkingdom, swayed by the prosperity
and comfort afforded the people in Hughseph’s demesne.
But with each passing generation, the memories of the Wars
of Muchkingian Succession, the struggle to quell Tamzei, Hais, and Lemilech
began to fade. Though still part of
local lore, and still revered for ushering a golden age in Påmidgard, the names
of Hughseph, Euphemily, and their allies seem as detached from the present
reality as their Onddami predecessors. The once proud Munchkingdom has withered, made
stagnant by the influence of insular bureaucrats and an ever more detached
Munchking, who now is more ceremonial figurehead than absolute monarch. In the wake of this power vacuum, local
feudal lords and chieftains now exercise control, maintaining order and safety
as best as they can.
Some looked to the famed Ring of 52 Weeks wielded by
Euphemily, but its powers have divested, feeding the land itself with magical
energy. True, this has brought about the
resurgence of mages and magic users within Påmidgard, but not all wielders of
arcana do so for benevolent purposes.
Still others delve deeper into the earth in search of
artifacts, including the now resurgent Dwarf Kingdoms of the Redstone Mountains
and the Highgate Bluffs. With the
greater Gnomic migrations, rumors have emerged of magical devices that could
tip the balance of power in the land.
Yet in what form and to what end have yet to be confirmed.
And so in this time of uneasy truces between feudal states
and reemerging magic there came to be a new group of heroes. Beginning as lowly adventurers for hire,
their exploits and efforts to establish justice and ensure domestic tranquility
would soon bring this company fame, until all of Påmidgard regarded with pride
their name: Påmid-Guardians, LLC!
