World Building...

TL;DR, I made a map and description of the Lands in Påmidgard for your enjoyment.

So my intention was no maps, no minis.  Well...OK.  One map at least:
In keeping with the developments enumerated in the Prologue, you'll note the changing political landscape compared with this older map from just prior to the Return of Magic. (Make that two maps!)
I'll admit that some of my worldbuilding choices were the result of limited colored pencil options, but constraints are a good thing when writing!

Signs of life: Fri 7/31 or Sat 8/1

Aelrimcosian Chieftain flanked by Golem & Barmaid
I cannot tell you how excited I am!  So, as has been Facebook-chatted, it sounds like 7/31 or 8/1 work for Character Creation sessions.  I've also started drafting the campaign, so you'll find a new "Prologue" page.  I'm hesitant to write too much more before getting to meet the party, so I've left the setting a bit open-ended (but more concrete than the previous backstory).

We'll try to tack down which date/time is best soonly.  In the meantime, I have more homework!

Doodle for Character Creation?

This is by no means compulsory, but if you'd like to come over and work out character ideas with me/us, that'd be swell!  I've set up a Doodle poll where you can check off your availability for a number of different dates/times in the near future.

Although meeting corporately to do this has its advantages, I'm also okay with meeting in dribs and drabs as schedules permit.

NB--Philly crowd, no rush as I know you're traveling of late, and we can definitely plan on Skyping for convenience's sake.

Here's the link

Hope to hear from you!
Dan

So I reached that awkward moment where the PDF counts the cover page as page one, and so I truncated the player's guide ever so slightly.  Here's the missing page: Page 28

AGE in action: Titansgrave

UPDATE:  Chapter 7 added!

No secret--least of all to Dan Sorenson--I loves me some Titansgrave.  This is a module that uses Fantasy AGE hosted by Wil Wheaton as a standalone RPG show on Geek and Sundry's YouTube channel.  While the setting is distinct (and genre-mashing to boot), the gameplay will be almost identical.  (Plus, it's a great story and nerd beer is involved in the first few episodes!)

I've been maintaining a playlist to be able to view the series in sequence.  They release new episodes every Tuesday, but have them unlisted until...Friday?

Anyway, enjoy!

AGE in action: Dragon Age

So I first discovered this particular system through Wil Wheaton's show Table Top on the Geek and Sundry YouTube channel.  Here, game designed Chris Pramas GM's a story set in Ferelden.  The game engine is not exactly the same, but you get a sense for how it operates. (In two parts):

Backstory's up!

It's not pretty, and certainly a far cry from my original intentions, but it at least gets the job done.  Plus, I've incorporated some of the avatars I had modeled in The Sims Medieval:

Lord Hughseph (center right) admiring the commemorative statues of his adversaries Hais (left) & Lemilech (right).

So yeah, check out the Backstory pages for some setting info.  Although the original story had the elves disappear, I'm more than happy to have elves in the party and am equally happy to retcon an explanation.  (Hey, y'know, with magic coming back and all, and that magic being Elven in origin...)  I can also be convinced that magic users are something like the new airbenders (spoilers?) in season four of Korra... just spontaneously manifesting their new abilities at first.

Be on the lookout for a Doodle to help with event planning, and by all means let me know your thoughts on going about character creation.

Dan

Velkommen til Påmidgard!

Greetings one and everyone,

By way of introduction, welcome to Påmidgard, the setting of a fantasy RPG campaign utilizing Green Ronin's Fantasy AGE game engine.  I look forward to being your host/GM for this story.

I've only begun assembling parts of this site, so all is not quite put into place just yet.  Even so, I thought it best to give a brief overview of what's what.

You'll notice a "Helpful Links" area of the main page.  With any luck, those links will go to excerpts from the Fantasy AGE core book that will be important early on in the game.

I intend to see what people's thoughts are regarding character creation, but think that the two main options are either to have a character creation party or to come to the first game session with characters already generated.

Some other ideas that I've seen work well (keeping in mind that this is my first go at GM'ing a bona fide RPG) include having a bit of a backstory to your character, and having a secret (or secrets) of which the rest of (or most of the rest of) the party is unaware.  To assist in this, I've uploaded my pre-writing for the predecessor story of this game, and will update with a second part to summarize the events of "The Vengeance of Tamzei" and "The Ruination of Hais."

Last point before I hit the hay:  the title Påmid-Guardians is a bid of wordplay: The name Påmidgard is derived from Norwegian, "på," a preposition most closely meaning "on," and "Midgard," which can be rendered as a proper noun, as "the earth," or (if one is feeling particularly Tolkien-esque) as "Middle-Earth."  The implication is that it is the land surrounded by sea/ocean.  So our in-game universe takes place "On-Middle-Earth" as it were!  (Seeing how we have interested players of the surnames "Swenson" and "Sorenson" involved, keeping with the Nordic naming conventions may not be a bad move!)  For the pronunciation snobs (myself included), render "Påmidgard" thusly: poːmId'gɑːrɖ

TTFN,
Dan

Test

This is a test of the Påmid-Guardian distress system.  Had this been an actual emergency, I wouldn't have had the time to type something.
